The New England Patriots made a big splash in free agency this offseason when they signed former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster.
Last year at this time, Smith-Schuster was one of the most exciting new additions as a veteran receiver on the Chiefs. This year, the Patriots are still waiting on him to be healthy.
According to NFL Network’s Mike Girardi, Smith-Schuster is still dealing with a knee injury suffered in 2022.
He was hoping to prove his worth after an injury-plagued season with the Pittsburgh Steelers and agreed to a cheaper one-year deal with Kansas City to reset his market value. In the process, he won a ring, looked like a difference-maker, and earned a sizeable deal with the New England Patriots in free agency.
The best thing they have going for them it’s mid-June and the regular season doesn’t start for nearly three months, which is plenty of time for a player to recuperate, recover, and rest.
It looks like the Chiefs dodged a bullet after they saw him suffer a knee injury leading up to the January 29 AFC Championship Game versus the Cincinnati Bengals. He played in the critical game but exited during the third quarter.
