Former NFL running back Marshawn Lynch had his day in court this Wednesday following a DUI arrest in Las Vegas back in 2022.
The Super Bowl winner was apprehended after he was found sleeping behind the wheel of a car near the Vegas Strip. Lynch is reported to have refused a breathalyzer and was made to take a blood test which showed that he had consumed over two times the legal limit.
According to David Charns of KLAS, he will not face any jail time following the charge, having accepted a plea deal that saw an initial misdemeanor DUI downgraded to reckless driving. He is now required to perform community service and pay a fine of just over $1,000.
“Ahead of the start of a scheduled trial on Wednesday, Lynch accepted a plea deal for the misdemeanor DUI. As part of the deal, the charge will be lowered to reckless driving if Lynch completes DUI school, a victim impact panel, an alcohol evaluation, 200 hours of community service and stays out of trouble for a year, documents said,” Charns noted.
Lynch’s lawyers, Richard Shonfield and David Chesnoff, said that the former All-Pro has not been convicted of any offense and has agreed to undertake “certain requirements” to close the case off as a reckless driving matter.
“Mr. Lynch has not been convicted of any offense at his time,” they declared in a statement. “He has agreed to complete certain requirements which will result in this case being closed as a reckless driving traffic offense.”
