The Colts dropped two bombshells on Monday when they announced the firing of Frank Reich and then revealed that former Indianapolis Pro Bowl center Jeff Saturday will serve as interim coach.
He played for the Colts from 1999-2011. He was a Pro Bowler five times from 2005-11 while helping the Colts capture the franchise’s first Super Bowl after moving from Baltimore to Indianapolis.
The uproar about his hiring is due to the fact that his previous coaching experience includes being the head coach for the Hebron Christian Academy and the fact that many Black candidates would never receive a job like this under the same circumstances.
One of the people calling this hire out was Joy Taylor.
The Fox Sports personality took to her show and eviscerated the Colts for choosing Saturday over the likes of Reggie Wayne.
“I love a good, unqualified man hire. Woo. I love it. I love it. I love it. Here’s why I love it. I mean, obviously I’m being sarcastic. I don’t love it. This is embarrassing. We’re talking about things bigger than a nice person getting an opportunity. An opportunity that is completely unqualified for, right. Completely unqualified for.
And I don’t want to hear about the playing. Coaching is an experience that you have to have experience for, and we undermine it constantly by these hires. So what really bothers me is every time these unqualified, wildly unqualified hires happen.
Nobody wants to give it the attention that it deserves. When we’re talking about Black head coaches, you have no experience. None, zero, none, no experience in college or professionally. And what is the word that we always hear when it comes to black coaches being hired?
Well, I just don’t have enough experience. This is This is why when people start start their whole production about all, everybody’s politically correct now and everybody’s so sensitive and you always complaining about stuff this. I don’t know. What’s a better example?

If I can get a beer with this guy, than this. This is the good old boys club. If I had never seen it right? And the next time we’re talking about this, don’t come to me. Don’t slide out of your little troll hole to tell me that this never happens.
What is this? This Reggie Wayne is on the staff. My guy on the staff. And how you gonna look me in the face and tell me that this is anything other than what it is? How if Reggie wasn’t on the staff?
Maybe, and I’m still really not trying to hear it, but Reggie’s on the staff. There’s other guys on the staff that fit, yes. Yes, because because they made this the criteria. Yeah, that all you had to be was a player.
It’s it’s I gotta get my beer drinking together.”
Saturday will temporarily take over a Colts team that is 3-5-1 through nine games.
The Colts are bad from top to bottom as they are currently last in the NFL in scoring, 30th in rushing, and 31st in red zone efficiency.
The team recently benched former league MVP Matt Ryan in favor of Sam Ehlinger, who lost his first two starts of the season while the Colts’ offense scored a combined 19 points in those games.
Reich, on the other hand, went 40-33-1 in the regular season and 1-2 in the postseason in four-plus seasons in Indianapolis.
