Using the words “enthusiastically” and “Browns” in the same sentence before this season would’ve been enough to send anybody to the emergency room due to a laughing attack, but then the franchise parted ways with head coach Hue Jackson and QB Baker Mayfield had the team playing competitive for the 1st time in a long time.
As the Cleveland Browns cast a wide net to find a new head coach following a promising 2018 season, there has been some uproar that the franchise just might talk to Josh McDaniels about the head coaching position.
According to Steve Doerschuk of the Canton Repository, New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels is “enthusiastically interested” in the Browns head coaching job.
“The Browns have used back channels to indicate a mutual preliminary interest, but they have not invited him to an early interview. The Green Bay Packers did, and he said yes.”
If the Browns want to talk to McDaniels, they would need to do so in the next coming days while the Patriots are on their playoff bye week, or risk waiting until whenever New England’s postseason run ends.
McDaniels has spent 15 years as an assistant with the Patriots under Bill Belichick, 10 of those seasons as the team’s offensive coordinator.
