Josh Jacobs has discussed the expectations regarding his new role with the Green Bay Packers.
The Packers signed the former Las Vegas Raiders star this offseason and will pay a significant sum as a result, so it appears they will be asking a lot more from him than he’s used to.
Jacobs spoke to NFL Network about his expanded role this week and revealed he is looking forward to showing a different offensive dimension in a Packers uniform as he should be doing a lot more route running and catching.
“Just to be able to come out and actually show I can catch the ball more,” he explained. “Be able to run real routes. Not just that, but trusting me enough to pick up protections. It’s just so special when you’ve got a guy like Jordan Love back there, you can’t just load the box on every play…I think it’s going to be the biggest help for me this year.”

Josh Jacobs has made 197 catches in the NFL, though he has never scored a receiving touchdown. Given his recent comments, that could be about to change.

The running back has had a bit of an inconsistent career to date, having led the league in rushing with 1,653 yards en route to an All-Pro nod in 2022. He registered a career-low 3.5 yards per carry last season, rushing for 805 yards.
The latter, while decent, is hardly the standard we’ve come to expect from Josh Jacobs, so it’s going to be interesting to see which version of the player the Packers will have next season.
Of course, the Raiders are partly to blame, probably even more so. The team used different quarterbacks last season and underwent a mid-season coaching change.
Unfortunately, they won’t get to see what Jacobs can do if he finds stability again.
