The Las Vegas Raiders and star running back Josh Jacobs reportedly aren’t close on a contract extension as Monday’s deadline for a long-term deal nears.
Players who were assigned the franchise tag back in March have until 4:00 p.m. EST to reach an agreement on a multi-year extension with their teams. Otherwise, they’ll have to play the 2023 campaign under the franchise tag.
According to a report from Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the Raiders and the 2022 rushing champion aren’t anywhere close on a contract extension.
Bryan DeArdo of CBS Sports put together a list of the best landing spots for Jacobs. Topping DeArdo’s list were the reigning NFC Champion Philadelphia Eagles, followed by the Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins.
Jacobs finished as the 2022 NFL rushing champion with 1,653 yards and 12 touchdowns. For his career, the Alabama product has 4,740 yards and 40 rushing touchdowns. Jacobs has exceeded 1,000 yards rushing through three of his first four NFL seasons.

The Eagles lost their top rusher of 2022, Miles Sanders to the Carolina Panthers in free agency. To replace him, they signed ex-Seattle Seahawks’ first-round pick Rashaad Penny to a one-year contract.
As for the Bears, they have two potential 1,000-yard rushers in Khalil Herbert and free agent pickup D’Onta Foreman. Whether or not they’d be keen on sacrificing draft capital for Jacobs remains to be seen.
Of course, all of this speculation is a moot point if Jacobs and the Raiders end up agreeing to an extension. We’ll just have to wait and see how things play out.
