FX series ‘American Story’ is set to make former NFL tight end a feature, with an actor already selected.
According to Variety, Josh Andrés Rivera, who is best known for his role as Chino in Steven Spielberg’s ‘West Side Story,” will be portraying Hernandez as part of FX’s ‘American Sports Story: Gladiator’, which is part of the franchise also responsible for ‘American Horror Story’ and ‘American Crime Story.
‘American Crime Story’ took on the O.J. Simpson murder trial in its first season and fans are set to get another intriguing sports-based bit based on what has gone down as one of the most shocking controversies surrounding the NFL.
Per Variety, the upcoming Hernandez-focused piece will “examine the “rise and fall” of Hernandez, including looking into his identity, his family, his career, his death, and his legacy. Hernandez was a tight end for the New England Patriots of the NFL before he was convicted of murder. He ultimately took his own life in prison in 2017.”
Hernandez took his own life back in 2017 at the age of 27 while serving time for the murder of Odin Lloyd.
The former University of Florida tight end was drafted by the New England Patriots out of the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft and played three seasons with the team.
