In recent reports, it’s been said that NFL Executives are unwilling to trade a 1st round pick for disgruntled Indianapolis Colts Running Back Jonathan Taylor.
According to a report from Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, executives are hesitant to offer more than a 2nd round pick for Taylor due to his injury history. Though Indianapolis is looking for at least a 1st round pick in return for Taylor, rival teams are unlikely to give them that.
“One AFC exec said he’d ballpark it at a third- and a fifth-round pick. Another AFC exec said a third- or fourth-rounder,” according to Breer.
“An NFC exec said he’d consider a package carrying the value of a second- or third-rounder,” the highly-respected NFL insider continued. “A second NFC exec said he’d put the value at a fourth-rounder with play-time triggers to make it a third. A third NFC exec said a second- or third-rounder (“Less than [Christian] McCaffrey,” he added).”
Taylor, 24, made headlines this offseason by demanding a trade after the Colts refused to grant him a long term extension following his rookie deal. Taylor was among the top running backs in the NFL in 2021, where he ran for 1,800 yards to lead the league in rushing and 18 touchdowns, but injuries held him to 11 games in 2022.
The Colts recently granted Taylor permission to seek his own trade, while looking for a haul in return for his production. Seeing the potential packages, Taylor’s issue with the Colts will likely take longer to reach a resolution.

Taylor’s issue is another in a long saga of NFL running backs this offseason. As with Taylor, some of the top backs in the league aren’t getting max extensions following their rookie deals and are held hostage with franchise tags.
As Taylor looks to resume his career with a new team and contract, the process may slow down due to the lack of a return for the star. At 24, he has a lot of good football left in him, the only question left is will teams up their offer or will the Colts relent?
