There have been multiple teams that have showed interest in trading for Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor, but none more shocking that this…
According to Adam Schefter (via ESPN’s Stephen Holder), the Green Bay Packers were the so-called “mystery team” that was inquiring about a trade with the Colts for the All Pro running back.
It’s shocking news, to say the least, as the Packers already have one of the league’s best 1-2 punches at running back, with Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon. You’d have to think that Green Bay was looking to include one of those guys in a deal with the Colts, which would make sense for both sides.
The Packers are expected to lean on their run-game more so in 2023 than in previous years, as they look to turn the page and transition from four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers to 2020 first-round pick Jordan Love at the quarterback position.
As for Jonathan Taylor, he’s currently on the Colts’ PUP list following Tuesday’s roster cutdown deadline. As a result, he will be unable to play in any of Indy’s first four games of the season. The belief is that, while the Colts placed a soft deadline on trade negotiations for Taylor, they’ll continue to explore a possible deal up until this year’s NFL trade deadline — which falls on October 31 this season.
