Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay has confirmed that star running back Jonathan Taylor has suffered a thumb injury following earlier reports.
Taylor, who had his first multiple-score performance since 2021 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, is now set to miss multiple games as he’s scheduled to undergo surgery this Wednesday, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, who has cited Irsay.
A decision on whether the player will be placed on the injured reserve will be made later on.
Taylor rushed for 91 yards and two touchdowns in the Colts’ win over Tampa Bay in Week 12, playing the entire game as he accounted for 42 snaps and 15 carries.
He ended the win with an eight-yard rush with 1:24 remaining on the clock, allowing Indy to run it out.
The Colts will now look to Zack Moss to take on the workload. Moss was one of the NFL’s leading rushers while Taylor was out earlier this season and has registered a career-best 672 yards along with five touchdowns in 2023.
