Indianapolis Colts’ star running back Jonathan Taylor is one of the biggest names to follow in the rumor mill leading up to this year’s trade deadline.
Taylor requested a trade from the Colts earlier this offseason after a meeting with owner Jim Irsay. The 24-year-old and 2021 rushing champion is in the final year of his contract, and the Colts made it clear that they won’t want to extend Taylor long-term.
Taylor is still on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list due to an ankle injury, but he’ll be eligible to return in Week 5. The Colts should definitely be keen on trading their star RB rather than lose him for nothing in 2024 free agency, and there won’t be a shortage of teams interested in his services.
Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox ranked Taylor atop the trade block big board, and he made the case for the Steelers to make a move for the Colts’ star:
“The Steelers might want to consider the Wisconsin product, as 2021 first-round pick Najee Harris continues to underperform on the ground. He’s averaging just 4.0 yards per carry this season and 3.9 yards per carry for his career.
Taylor could add a new dynamic to what has become a very one-dimensional Steelers offense.”
Indeed, Najee Harris has underperformed for the Steelers thus far. No. 2 RB Jaylen Warren actually has more total yards of offense (156) than Harris (141), and many are calling for Pittsburgh to make the former the starting back.

Pittsburgh looks like a contender at 2-1 entering Week 4’s contest with the Houston Texans, but adding an explosive back like Taylor would greatly enhance their chances of going on a deep postseason run in 2023.
Even if they are interested in adding Taylor, however, the Steelers surely know that there will be tremendous competition for his services.
