Indianapolis Colts’ running back Jonathan Taylor is one of the top names to follow on the trade market as Week 1 of the 2023 NFL season draws closer.
Three weeks ago, the 2021 rushing champion requested a trade from the Colts following a meeting with team owner Jim Irsay, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Taylor is entering the final season of his rookie deal.
Speaking to Kenneth Teape of NFL Analysis Network, a league executive stated that they believe the Miami Dolphins are speaking to Indianapolis about potentially trading for Taylor. Here’s what the executive said:
“I don’t know if anything is going to get done, but I think the Dolphins and Colts have discussed a trade involving Jonathan Taylor. There’s been an awful lot of buzz there.”
Miami’s running back depth chart is led by 31-year-old Raheem Mostert, who led the team with 891 rushing yards last season. Veterans Jeff Wilson Jr. and Miles Gaskin and rookie De’Von Achane are the other RBS on Miami’s roster.
So the club could definitely use a proven star like Taylor to complement an offense led by Tua Tagovailoa and the NFL’s best receiving duo in Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. The Dolphins haven’t had a 1,000-yard rusher since 2016, when Jay Ajayi rushed for 1,272 yards.

The Colts open their 2023 season with a home contest against the AFC South rival Jacksonville Jaguars on Sept. 10.
