The Indianapolis Colts continue to have a big problem on their hands.
Jonathan Taylor is not at camp amid a standoff about his contract.
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport later stated the Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor was away from the Colts facility rehabbing ankle. However, it should be noted that injured players are usually still at camp to listen and support their teammates.
Colts coach Shane Steichen wouldn’t say whether Taylor was at the Colts facility, via Stephen Holder of ESPN, and Holder reported that it was his understanding that Taylor was not on the premises.
“If you don’t see him out here, he’s rehabbing,” Steichen said, via Joel Erickson of the Indianapolis Star.

Taylor and the Colts aren’t in a good place as he is demanding a new contract as well as requesting a trade. Colts owner Jim Irsay has already made it abundantly clear Taylor won’t be traded. Controversy then arose when there was a report that Taylor suffered a back injury away from the team, which Taylor himself refuted.
This entire situation is messy.
Steichen said the team hopes Taylor practices before the end of training camp but given how things have played out thus far, it seems like everything is up in the air.
The Colts desperately want to rebound from a miserable 2022 season and they are not going to do so without Jonathan Taylor’s help. He was an All-Pro in 2021, leading the NFL in rushing yards and touchdowns.
Battling injuries for much of the season, Taylor managed just 861 yards and four touchdowns in 11 games.
Taylor is entering the last year of his rookie deal, where he is set to make $4.3 million.
