Jonathan Owens and Simone Biles are undoubtedly among the NFL’s most favorite couples.
Packers safety Jonathan Owens recently revealed the beginning of his relationship with gymnastics icon Simone Biles and it may shock many to know that he had no clue who she was and what she accomplished.
During a recent appearance on Ryan Clark’s The Pivot podcast, the Packers safety recalled the story of how his relationship with the gymnastics legend, who was seated just off-screen, began.
The pair became Instagram official in August 2020 after meeting during COVID times thanks to the assistance of dating app, Raya.
Owens revealed he had no idea of Biles’ occupation, nor her success.
“So literally, had been on [Raya] for a couple of days, man, and she pops up and I’m like ‘let me see who this is.’ I had never really paid attention to gymnastics, so it piqued my curiosity.
“When she won the Olympics I was in college and we didn’t have NBC,” Owens later said. “We didn’t have an Olympic channels and we’re in camp. So I’m not paying attention to you know, so I never would have had a moment to where I would have watched.”

Owens said he went and worked out before returning to see there was an update on his phone; on a completely different app.
“I come back and I have some likes on my Instagram — and then I still waited,” he said. “Then she messaged me on the app; ‘hey’.
“Man, this gotta be fake,” Owens remembered thinking. “I didn’t know who she was at the time. But like, the first thing that I saw was that she just had a bunch of followers.”
The pair began seaking before eventually meeting in-person three days later in Houston. Owens played for the Texans between 2019 and 2022.
“[When] we hung out man, it was like we hit it off instantly,” he said. “You know, we just laughed the whole night.”
Despite the great first date, Owens needed to be convinced to give Biles what she wanted.
“I was afraid to commit. I’m like, ‘Man, this my third year. You know, it’s kind of early.’ But you know, it happens when you least expect it.”
“I always say the men are the catch, man,” he told Ryan Clark. “I always say we the catch.”
Owens has 67 tackles and one sack on the year.
As for his team, the Packers are 6-8 and have lost two in a row to drop out of the seven-team playoff race.
According to the New York Times playoff odds simulator, the Packers have a 95-percent chance to make the playoffs if they win out.
