Jon Gruden will never coach for another NFL team again, but he will still be paid handsomely from his last team.
According to a report from NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, Gruden is owed roughly $40 million remaining on his contract. A settlement has not been reached, but is expected fairly soon.
Gruden, who had led the Raiders to a promising start in 2021, resigned last Monday after the continued leaks of emails from him that were written from 2011 to 2018. Gruden made racist and homophobic remarks while still employed by ESPN.
The emails were flagged as part of the NFL’s investigation into the Washington Football Team amid workplace misconduct allegations. Gruden coached last Sunday after the racist emails came out, but he didn’t make it through Monday night.

In his second stint with the team, Gruden finished on a 22-31 record with no playoff appearances in three-plus seasons. This current team in 2021 was shaping to be his best squad before the scandal.
