Former NFL quarterback Ron Jaworski (also known as “Jaws”), shared a hilarious story involving Hall of Famer Peyton Manning and the latter’s ex-offensive coordinator in Indianapolis, Tom Moore.
Per the @_MLFootball Twitter account, Jaworski recalled a tale where Moore explained to former NFL head coach Jon Gruden why he was refusing to give some of Manning’s backups some snaps. According to Jaworski, Moore had a rather simple explanation…
Let’s just say that Moore had a point. The Colts recorded double-digit wins every single year from 2002 to 2010, reaching three AFC Championship Games and two Super Bowls, winning it all in the 2006 season.
But Manning missed the entire 2011 season recovering from neck surgery. The result? The Colts finished as football’s worst team with a 2-14 to secure the first overall pick, which they used on Andrew Luck.
One can also look at Manning’s production with the Denver Broncos to get an idea as to how much he could single-handedly change a team. When he arrived to Mile High City in 2012, Denver hadn’t finished with a winning record since 2006.
The Broncos recorded four straight seasons of at least 12 wins during Manning’s four-year tenure, winning two AFC Championships (2013 and 2015) and Super Bowl 50. And since his retirement in 2016? The Broncos have had one winning season, and they haven’t made the postseason ever since.
