The San Francisco 49ers actually shocked everybody when they selected Trey Lance with the third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Prior to that move, the team reportedly tried to land another QB.
San Francisco expressed interest in Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, but were turned down.
General manager John Lynch confirmed those rumors and revealed what was said.
“Yeah, we inquired and it was a quick end to the conversation,” Lynch said. “It wasn’t happening.”
The Packers have already stated they won’t be trading Rodgers, but the QB has reportedly said he will not play for the team again. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Thursday that Rodgers is frustrated with the team and no longer wants to be in Green Bay.
