New York Jets’ legend Joe Namath went off on the struggling AFC East team, particularly head coach Robert Saleh, GM Joe Douglas and quarterback Zach Wilson.
Following a thrilling overtime win against the Buffalo Bills in Week 1, the Jets have followed it up with back-to-back uninspiring losses. New York has totaled just 20 points over its two losses, with Wilson throwing just one touchdown and three interceptions over those contests.
During an appearance on “The Michael Kay Show” on ESPN New York (h/t Rich Cimini), Namath blasted Wilson and the Jets. He accused Wilson of quitting on a play and called for the Jets to trade the former No. 2 pick:
“I didn’t take anything positive out of (Wilson’s play in Week 3) it. It was awful…You sit down? You sit down on a play? You go right down? What happened. I thought you’re trying to win and make plays. You quit on a play? What is going on? It’s disgusting.
I wouldn’t keep him. I’ve seen enough of Zach Wilson…
The Super Bowl 3 champion then turned his focus over to Saleh and Douglas, calling for the Jets to make a change at head coach:
“These guys aren’t picking the right players. They aren’t doing a good job of coaching. It’s evident. I mean, you’ve got to look and see. If you have an eye for football at all you see things are haywire. It’s too crazy. They need to fix it and that’s getting rid of a lot of people and bringing new ones in…
They need to make major changes, from top to bottom.”

It’s certainly difficult to understand the Jets’ commitment to Wilson. He hasn’t shown any improvement from his forgettable rookie or sophomore campaigns, completing just 52.4 percent of pass attempts for 467 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions.
The trade for Rodgers put the Jets purely in win-now mode, but Wilson’s struggles aren’t going to keep this team in playoff contention. The fact the team is refusing to accept that they need a new quarterback? What else can we say other than, “Same old Jets.”
New York will try to avoid a third straight loss when they welcome the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night.
