Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon has been cleared of wrongdoing in the shooting incident that took place on his property earlier this month, per TMZ, yet it’s more than can be said for his sister and her boyfriend.
Mixon fell under intense scrutiny following reports noting his house was part of a crime scene after a teenager got shot near his residence while participating in a game involving toy guns on March 6. But Hamilton County prosecutor Melissa Powers has made it clear that the player did not commit any crime on the day in question.
In a news conference on Thursday, the prosecutor revealed that the boyfriend of Shalonda Mixon, Lamonte Brewer, was charged with four offenses, including felony assault, after it was determined, via video evidence, that he wounded a 16-year-old boy in the leg, having discharged 10-11 rounds in his direction.
Shalonda, meanwhile, has been charged with tampering with evidence and obstruction of justice as she stands accused of removing shell casings from the scene and driving away with Brewer. Police found the weapon used in the shooting, a Zavasta M92, in the trunk of the couple’s vehicle after stopping them.
Brewer could face up to 20 years in prison if found guilty, while Mixon’s sister is staring at a four-year sentence.

Powers also revealed Mixon did have a gun on him at the time but never drew it.
“As a legal gun owner, [Joe] Mixon had the right to possess the firearm and did not commit a crime,” she said.
