A former wide receiver of the Clemson and Memphis Tigers is in a very situation.
Former Clemson and Memphis wide receiver Joe Craig was recently arrested and charged with child abuse and aggravated child neglect, according to wreg.com.
The 31-year-old and employee at the Academy of Future Leaders on Madison Avenue in Memphis is said to be held on $200,000 bond.
The report says his arrest stems from an incident at a daycare where a two-year child had to undergo several surgeries after the incident.
“According to DHS records we uncovered, Craig filled out an incident form that morning stating the child was scratched on his neck while playing. The records also state Craig later messaged the parents the child was “sleepy.”
“Two of messages sent by the daycare were deleted. At 12:30 p.m., staff told DHS the “child vomited” and was “taken to the restroom and cleaned up by [Craig]” and then put down for a nap. An hour later, Craig told DHS the child’s “hands were moving oddly and legs were locked straight. He called the father at 1:48 p.m., and staff called 911 at 1:55 p.m.”
Craig attended Clemson for his redshirt year in 2010. He returned for his freshman year, where he caught three passes for 18 yards while playing in seven games. He would be dismissed from Clemson in his freshman year after being served with an arrest warrant on charges of criminal domestic violence for striking the mother of his son.

Craig transferred to Copiah-Lincoln CC for his sophomore year, before again transferring to Memphis for his junior and senior years in 2013 and 2014. In 2013, Craig led Memphis in receiving with 37 receptions for 338 yards.
Craig is of just six players in Memphis history to have over 1,000 kickoff return yards, ranking fifth all-time.
In 2015, Craig was signed by the Bengals. That wouldn’t last long as he would then sign with the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League in 2016. He recorded two receptions for 32 yards during the 2016 season.
Now, Craig might be headed to prison.
