The football world is again in mourning as it’s been reported that a former Super Bowl champion has been found dead in Florida.
Joe Campbell, who played two seasons with the then-Oakland Raiders in the late 80s, had been reported missing earlier this month. His brother, Patrick, has told the Delaware News Journal’s Kevin Tresolini that he has been found, sadly not alive, with the cause of death believed to be cardiac arrest.
It’s also believed that the former defensive end was hiking prior to the unfortunate occurrence.
The Raiders have also released a statement confirming Joe’s passing.
“The Raiders family mourns the passing of Joe Campbell, who played in 13 games over two seasons with the Silver and Black,” it reads.
Campbell was acquired by the team in 1980 and was part of their Super Bowl XV championship team.

He played in 65 regular season games over the span of five seasons after being selected by the New Orleans Saints in the first round of the 1977 NFL Draft. He joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1981.
“The thoughts and prayers of the entire Raiders Nation are with the Campbell family at this time,” the Raiders’ statement continues.
Campbell became a physical education teacher in the 90s, having left the NFL after the 81 season.
TotalProSports extends sympathies to the Campbell family, as well as Joe’s friends and loved ones.
