After Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow suffered a calf strain at training camp in July, many believed that he had enough time before the season began to get fully healthy. And although Burrow suited up against the Browns in week 1, he did not look like his regular self as he threw for a career-low 82 passing yards and his Bengals lost to Cleveland 24-3.
Burrow and the Bengals had another tough test in week two as they hosted their division rival Baltimore Ravens in their home opener. Once again the Bengals offense struggled and they dropped the game 27-24 to move to 0-2 for the second consecutive season. Even more concerning than the loss is Burrow appears to have re-aggravated the calf injury he initially suffered at camp.
Former NFL doctor David J. Chao took to social media to offer his expert diagnosis on Burrow and hs calf. Here is what the doctor had to say:
So according to Dr. Chao, this is definitely an injury that will continue to linger with the probablity of re-aggravation being very high. The Bengals will need to make a huge decision whether or not to shut Burrow down until the calf completely heals or take the risk and continue to play their franchise quarterback.
No one is ever going to mistake Joe Burrow for Lamar Jackson, however, Burrow does use his legs to move around inside of the pocket as well as outside of the pocket to exend plays and find his receivers downfield. The calf injury is clearly limiting his ability to move around as he normally would. Burrow was spotted on the sidelines using a massage gun on the injured calf near the end of the game.
