Fans are offering reactions to news suggesting that, as good as Joe Burrow has been over the span of his NFL career, he could be a whole lot better next season.
The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback is heading into his fourth campaign with the team and has already aided them in reaching the Super Bowl and the AFC Championship Game in two consecutive seasons.
Of course, it helps that he’s remained put as far as the offensive system is concerned as he’s only played under head coach Zac Taylor and offensive coordinator Brian Callahan since the Bengals drafted him in 2020. According to the OC, he’s completely mastered it now and is sort of like a coach on the field.
“It’s fun for me this year with Burrow it’s been, we get to these meetings and we watch 7-on-7 together,” Callahan said during a recent episode of the Locked on Bengals podcast (H/T SI.com’s Russ Heltman).
“Joe almost coaches those guys — he’s very clear on what he expects from certain routes, where he wants guys to be the timing that it happens. It’s really fun to listen to him explain to everybody what he wants. So when he’s making a coaching point to Irv Smith. At some point, all the tight ends are supposed to hear that.
“When he’s talking to Ja’Marr [Chase] about something all those young receivers are gonna hear it. And so, that part’s really fun because he’s got mastery over our system now, which is a really cool thing to watch him grow in that and be able to almost become more like a coach.”

Burrow is eligible for a contract extension and the Bengals are likely to show him their appreciation in the form of a mega deal. The quarterback has indicated having outlined exactly what he wants from the franchise, and a contract standoff does not appear to be in his future.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Burrow could wait on the Los Angeles Chargers to agree a deal with Justin Herbert before signing his own extension, much like in the way Lamar Jackson got his deal done after Jalen Hurts secured the most lucrative deal in NFL history.
