Star quarterbacks aren’t the only ones changing places this offseason. Some of the NFL’s top broadcasters have also been playing musical chairs, and the latest big name on the move is Joe Buck, who will be leaving his longtime home at Fox for a spot in the ESPN Monday Night Football broadcast booth.
According to the New York Post’s Andrew Marchand, Fox granted Buck permission to speak with ESPN today. And it appears as though the two parties were able to come to an agreement.
Buck will follow his longtime partner, Troy Aikman, as it looks like the pair will not remain together for the foreseeable future as the voices of Monday Night Football.
But had one more year left on his deal with Fox, which would have paid him $11-million. Fox allowed him to speak with ESPN as a “good gesture for his years of service.” His new contract with ESPN is for five years and is expected to be worth $60- to $75 million — which is a lot of money, but still significantly less than Aikman’s $92.5-million for five years.
Buck spent almost 30 years with Fox, during which he became their lead NFL play-by-play man, as well as the station’s voice for their World Series coverage. He’ll be 53-years-old at the start of the 2022 NFL season.
