United States President Joe Biden is now giving his take on the scary injury suffered by Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin. The scary moment happened early during Monday night’s game between the Bills and Bengals. With 5:58 remaining in the first quarter, Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed seconds after tackling Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins.
He received immediate medical attention on the field and was transported to the UC Medical Center in Cincinnati. The 24-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest following the hit with his heartbeat restored on the field, the Bills announced in a statement early Tuesday morning. The team further divulged that Hamlin is “sedated and listed in critical condition.”
The frightening event sent shockwaves through all sports and transcended it as U.S. President Joe Biden even spoke with Hamlin’s mother and father, via Bloomberg News.
Biden gave his own take on the situation and pointed to a problem with the sport of football overall.
“Look, the idea that you’re gonna have, look you’ve got guys that are 6’8″, 340 pounds running a 4.8 40 … If you hit somebody with that kinda … now that’s not what happened here … but I just think it’s, I don’t know how you avoid it,” Biden said.

Biden’s comments come a day after White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters “We hope his condition and his health improves quickly, and like the rest of the nation our thoughts and prayers are with him, his family and his teammates.”
In the wake of the incident, thousands of people from around the country have donated over $6 million to Damar’s charity toy drive.
Hamlin is still fighting for his life in a Cincy hospital and the country continues to pray for him.
