The Philadelphia Eagles are the only undefeated team in the entire NFL, but at least one prominent former NFL coach does not believe in them.
The Dallas Cowboys are currently two games behind the unbeaten Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East, however, Hall of Fame head coach Jimmy Johnson thinks his former team will win the NFC East.
He said as much during a recent radio appearance this week.
“I think this is the best Cowboys team that I’ve seen,” he said during a recent appearance on 105.3 The Fan. “I’m still not 100% sold on Philadelphia. The NFC is down. I think the Cowboys have a better shot than most.”
Johnson then went on to explain why he’s not sold on the Eagles.
“If you look at Philadelphia, they run a different style of offense that gives people problems right off the bat. Most of their scoring comes early, especially in the second quarter. But once a team adjusts to that different style, the second half they’re playing them touch and go. And the other thing is, a team playing them for a second time will be that better prepared for them.”

Johnson speaking the Eagles scoring early and then dying off is what happened when the two teams met in Wek 6 and the Cowboys trailed 20-3 at halftime before getting to within three points in the fourth quarter. The eagles did just enough to get the victory, but that style of play of not scoring much in the second half after a big lead will come back to bite them in the playoffs.
Cooper Rush’s three interceptions did not help either.
The teams don’t meet again until Week 16.
Jimmy Johnson served as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys from 1989 through 1993 before a fallout with owner Jerry Jones led to his resignation. After leaving the Dolphins in 1996, Johnson became a TV studio analyst again for Fox Sports and is currently an on-air staff member on Fox NFL Sunday.
