When Jimmy Garoppolo was announced to be out for the season, it seemed impossible that he had a chance to be back on the field. However, the team has been awesome on the field behind Brock Purdy, who has yet to lose a game since taking over under center.
Fast forward to January and the 49ers just might be on their way to the Super Bowl and the injured QB has had talks about possibly returning. Speculation has swirled in recent weeks that Jimmy Garoppolo could return to the field during the postseason after breaking a bone in his foot in Week 13.
Garoppolo has now directly addressed the possibility by telling Matt Barrows of the Athletic that it’s “still up in the air” whether he could be available to play in the Super Bowl.
“I spoke with Jimmy Garoppolo today,” Barrows tweeted. “He said he can do everything on his still-mending foot but sprint. I asked if he’s on track to be available should the 49ers make it to the (Super Bowl). He smiled and said that’s still up in the air.”
Garoppolo went 7-3 as a starter this season as teh original started in Trey Lance went down for the year with an injury of his own. He completed 67.2 percent of his passes and threw 16 touchdowns versus four interceptions.
Purdy has completed 67.4 percent of his attempts and thrown for 13 scores and four picks.
