Jimmy Garoppolo is in a talking mood this week.
The San Francisco 49ers quarterback appeared on the Keyshawn, JWill & Zubin show on ESPN Radio to speak publicly for the first time since the 49ers traded up to No. 3 in the NFL draft and used that selection on Trey Lance.
“It’s kind of coming full circle,” Garoppolo said. “You go through this NFL career and you start as a young guy coming in. Tom kind of showed me the ropes. The competition between us was awesome. It really made me grow as a rookie and as a young player. So, that’s kind of what me and Trey, we’ll mold our relationship into that. But it will happen naturally. It’s one of those things you can’t force anything. Just let it come as it may.”
“I try to use my own personal experiences and just what I went through, what helped me, what challenged me as a young player,” Garoppolo said. “I’m going to use those tools that helped me and try to help Trey out. It’s hard to come into this league; I know how it was coming from an FCS school to the NFL. It’s a bit of an adjustment, the speed, whatever you want to call it, it’s just different. So, whatever I can do to help him, I’ll be more than happy.”
Jimmy G was also with CBS Sports’ Damon Amendolara on “The DA Show” and was asked about the rumors of him going back to the Patriots.
“I don’t know. We never really got to cross that bridge,” Garoppolo said. “You never know where your path is going to take you in the NFL. I thought I was going to be in New England for my entire career. That didn’t go as planned. So it’s kind of one of those businesses; you’ve just got to be ready for anything. You’ve got to be on your toes. You’ve got to be able to react. However the story plays out, you’ve just got to be able to run with it.”

New England signed Cam Newton to another 1-year deal while they also drafted Alabama QB Mac Jones with the 15th overall pick.
49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has said since drafting a QB hat Garoppolo remains San Francisco’s starting quarterback for now.
It will be fascinating to see how everything unfolds in the coming months.
“My dad’s an electrician, grew up in a blue-collar household. So I don’t know, it’s just one of those things, you’ve got to roll with the punches,” Garoppolo said. “Whenever an opportunity presents itself, you’ve got to be ready to take advantage of it. That’s kind of what I’ve done throughout my entire career, and that’s what I’m going to keep doing. Like my dad said, nothing is going to be handed to me. Nothing is going to be handed to anyone in this league. You’ve got to go in there and work.”
