Signing Jimmy Garoppolo comes with its risks since he is known to be very injury-prone.
The Las Vegas Raiders will be without their starting quarterback this weekend. Garoppolo has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears due to the back injury he sustained last week.
Garoppolo was taken to the hospital after suffering the injury late in the second quarter against the New England Patriots, but head coach Josh McDaniels said earlier this week that the quarterback had “dodged a big bullet” with the injury.
Him missing games hurts his bank account a lot.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter says with each missing game, it is costing him nearly six figures. He added that the Vegas quarterback’s contract calls for him to collect $90,000 for every week he’s on the game-day roster.
Now that he is out for Sunday’s game, he will have lost $180,000 in potential earnings so far.

The 31-year-old’s deal with Las Vegas had an amended contract because a foot injury had prevented him from passing his first physical with the team.
Garoppolo will miss his second start of the season. He previously missed the team’s Week 4 loss against the division rival Los Angeles Chargers due to a concussion. Rookie Aidan O’Connell filled in for Garoppolo in that game, completing 24 of 39 passes for 238 yards and an interception.
For Sunday’s game, the Raiders will be starting veteran Brian Hoyer.
