The league’s all-time leader in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns, Jerry Rice knows the game of football as well as just about anyone out there.
The San Francisco 49ers legend recently gave an opinion on quarterbacks and which one is better and it might rub a lot of people the wrong way. Rice joined 95.7 The Game on Monday, and when asked whether he believes Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott would be as successful as Jimmy Garoppolo in Kyle Shanahan’s system, the Hall of Fame wideout gave a strong answer.
“I think [Prescott] would have success,” Rice said (h/t 49ersWebZone). “But I don’t think he would be like Jimmy G. Overall, I think Jimmy G is the better quarterback than Dak. I’m sorry. I’m just going to call it. That’s just my opinion. That’s my opinion, and I could be wrong, but I think, right now, with Jimmy G, he’s the better quarterback than Dak Prescott.
“Like I said, two great quarterbacks, but I think in the system that Jimmy G is in right now, and with Kyle Shanahan, and the weapons that he’s got around him right now, and they’re adding on. Kendrick Bourne is still there. Then you’ve got Brandon Aiyuk. Then you’ve got that running game. Then you’ve got George Kittle. Deebo Samuel is going to be ready to go. So it’s going to be exciting this year.”
Garoppolo last season: 69.1 Cmp%, 3,978 yards, 27 TDs, 13 INT, 8.4 Y/A, 5.7 TD%
Prescott last season: 65.1 Cmp%, 4,902 yards, 30 TDs, 11 INT, 8.2 Y/A, 5.0 TD%
Additionally, Prescott finished fourth in the NFL in Quarterback Rating (70.2) behind Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes and Drew Brees, while Garoppolo finished 12th among QBs in QBR (58.8).
