The 49ers-Broncos matchup on Week 3 Sunday Night Football was a disaster of a game, so it makes sense that it had a disaster of a play that featured Jimmy G.
The 49ers were backed up to their own one yard line and after an unsuccessful run play, Jimmy Garoppolo then dropped back to pass, but went out of the back of the end zone without even realizing it.
After the game, Jimmy G was asked about this embarrassing play.
“I was just trying to buy some time for the play,” Garoppolo said.
“Yeah, that was a tough situation.”

Jimmy Garoppolo completed 18 of his 29 pass attempts for 211 yards, one touchdown, one interception, and lost a fumble in San Francisco’s Week 3 defeat to Denver.
The Niners went 1-of-10 on third downs and never were a threat to go downfield. It reminded everybody why San Francisco planned to move on from Jimmy G this season before Trey Lance’s season-ending injury.
Sitting at 1-2, Garoppolo and the 49ers don’t have time to waste with a matchup against the Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams on tap in Week 4 on Monday Night Football.
