Hours after head coach Josh McDaniels, the team would then inform struggling quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo that he was being benched and that rookie Aidan O’Connell would be starting moving forward. Basically, it is his job to lose.
This means Aidan O’Connell will be playing in Week 9 vs. the New York Giants as well as a Sunday Night Football game in Week 10 against the New York Jets.
Jimmy G is coming off of an abysmal performance in the 26-14 loss to the Detroit Lions on Monday night, in which he completed 47.6% of his passes for a season-low 126 passing yards and one interception. He failed to complete a single pass to a wide receiver in the first half and only completed one pass to Davante Adams in the entire game.
The fallout from Josh McDaniels‘ firing continued with Antonio Pierce named interim head coach and QBs coach Bo Hardegree promoted to offensive coordinator.

Garoppolo, who signed a three-year deal with the Raiders this offseason, is 3-3 as the starter this year. He’s averaging career-lows in yards per attempt, passer rating, and TD-INT ratio, and leads the league in interceptions with nine despite playing in just six games.
