New Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is set for a bit of an awkward reunion with his former team as he probably wasn’t expecting to have interactions with the San Francisco 49ers this soon after signing with the AFC West side.
According to Vic Tafur of The Athletic, the two teams are planning to have joint practices before they meet up for a preseason game in Vegas. This will be their second preseason affair since 2021 but, before that, they hadn’t played a non-competitive fixture since 2011.
The Niners held joint practices with the Minnesota Vikings last term and also played against them before the start of the regular season. The preseason before that saw them join the Los Angeles Chargers for practices – they played them in their last preseason game.
Players and coaches from both the Niners and Raiders are likely to downplay the practices and the game but you can be sure that there will be added motivation where both sides are concerned.
The 49ers will look to make life hard for Jimmy G while the quarterback will be keen to show them what they’re missing.

Of course, it will also provide just the forum for Kyle Shanahan to finally have a chat with the quarterback, having claimed that he’d have to run into the former Niners star to have a conversation with him.
