Jim Harbaugh is under intense scrutiny at the moment, given the NCAA’s investigation into sign stealing at the University of Michigan. And it’s now rumored that he has an eye on a potential NFL job.
According to the NFL Rumors account on X, the Wolverines head coach is keeping tabs on the situation with the Chicago Bears as the team might end up having a vacant HC spot if Matt Eberflus can’t improve results promptly.
There is already an opening in Vegas as the Raiders sacked Josh McDaniels on Wednesday. Harbaugh has naturally been linked to the job, and it will be interesting to see who Mark Davis brings in.
The 59-year-old has ties to both teams. He played quarterback for the Bears from 1987 to 1993 and was a quarterbacks coach with the Raiders from 2002 to 2003.
The Michigan HC is expected to face significant punishment when the NCAA’s investigation concludes. He has already served a three-game suspension this season resulting from recruiting violations and could decide that he’s had enough if additional penalties come down.
A return to the NFL would not necessarily serve as a get-out-of-jail-free card as it’s been reported that Harbaugh’s punishment would follow him to the pros. But he would be able to move on without having to look over his shoulder after that.
