Jim Harbaugh has officially taken his next step towards a possible return to the NFL.
According to ESPN, Michigan’s national championship winning head coach his scheduled his first meeting with an NFL team. And it’s quite the intriguing option.
Harbaugh is set to sit down with the Los Angeles Chargers this week, as the team continues to look for a replacement after firing Brandon Staley late in the 2023 season.
An exact date wasn’t provided, but the meeting is expected to happen this week. The Chargers are currently deep in their head coaching search, having already interviewed seven other interviews. Among those who have made their pitch for the job are Chargers offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, 49ers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks, and former Vikings coach Leslie Fraizer.
Harbaugh would easily be the biggest name to interview for the Chargers’ head coaching vacancy. Prior to coaching the Wolverines, he spent four seasons as the 49ers’ head coach, making it to three NFC Championship Games and one Super Bowl.
Harbaugh is preparing for his upcoming dive into the NFL job pool by hiring high-profile agent Don Yee, who also represents Sean Payton and previously worked with Tom Brady. With the Raiders, Commanders, Panthers, Falcons, Seahawks and Titans also looking for new head coaches, I wouldn’t expect this to be Harbaugh’s only interview this week.
