After winning a national championship at Michigan, Harbaugh has just one box left to check: winning a Super Bowl a many believe he is headed for the NFL once again.
After winning the National Championship with the Michigan Wolverines, it was soon reported that the Los Angeles Chargers have “real” interest in Jim Harbaugh as they start their coaching search. It appears that the feeling is mutual.
According to NFL senior writer for The Athletic Matt Barrows, the Chargers would be Harbaugh’s first choice to coach due to their similarities to the San Francisco 49ers when he took the job back in 2011.
“The Chargers also might be in play for Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh. In fact, league insiders think the Chargers would be Harbaugh’s first choice because it would remind him of the underachieving but veteran-laden team he took over in San Francisco in 2011.”
Harbaugh is one of the hottest commodities on the coaching market after leading the Wolverines to a national championship, so he’s likely to have some options.
Before Harabugh’s time in San Francisco, the 49ers were in the dumps as they had not had a winning season or a playoff appearance since 2002. Upon his arrival, they had a Super Bowl appearance and two NFC championship appearances.

The Chargers have had some success in recent years, but nothing concrete. The Los Angeles Chargers have won 5 times in the playoffs since 2000. It could’ve been a sixth but the team squandered away a 27-0 lead against the Jacksonville Jaguars in last year’s playoffs.
Harbaugh to the Chargers would be incredible in the aspect that he could actually help the franchise build a fan base that they so desperately want and just maybe home games can turn into actual home games and not road games.
