One of the biggest questions entering the 2023 offseason is who will emerge as the new starting quarterback for the New York Jets in 2023?
While the team remains adamant that they’ll keep Zach Wilson on board in hopes of developing the second-overall pick from 2021, the Jets have also made it quite clear that they’ll look to sign a veteran quarterback while they wait for Wilson to come along.
Aaron Rodgers seemed to be at the top of their list, based on comments made by Jets owner Woody Johnson during the NFL Honors red carpet event.
However, based on the Jets’ most recent hiring, it looks like they could have two other signal-callers in mind.
On Monday, it was reported that New York had hired former Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Todd Downing to be their passing game coordinator.
Downing has obvious ties to Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill, but he also happened spent time as the quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator of the Las Vegas Raiders during Derek Carr’s tenure there.

As Rapoport points out, this now gives the Jets some serious ties to four of the most intriguing quarterbacks that are expected to be available this offseason.
If I had to guess, I’d say Aaron Rodgers is still probably at the top of the Jets’ wish list, but any of these four guys (Rodgers, Carr, Tannehill and Jimmy Garoppolo) would undoubtedly provide the team with a huge upgrade under center.
