The New York Jets have made another splash in free agency.
Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Jets have signed ex-Kansas City Chiefs wideout and two-time Super Bowl champion Mecole Hardman. Ian Rapoport added that it’s a one-year pact for Hardman worth up to $6.5 million.
The Chiefs drafted the speedy Hardman 56th overall in 2019, and he turned out to be a quality No. 3 pass-catching option for Patrick Mahomes behind Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill and later JuJu Smith-Schuster.
Hardman surpassed the 500-yard receiving marks in each of his first three NFL seasons. He was limited to eight games in 2022 because of injury and finished with 25 receptions for 297 yards and four touchdowns.
Hardman had his best statistical season in 2021, when he racked up 59 receptions for 693 yards and two touchdowns. The Chiefs made four AFC Championship Games and three Super Bowls during his successful four-year run with the organization.

Last week, Green Bay Packers star quarterback Aaron Rodgers announced that his intention is to play for the New York Jets. The four-time MVP added that the Jets and Packers are just working out the trade compensation.
So Rodgers will join an offense consisting of Hardman, 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson, ex-Packer wideout Allen Lazard, big-bodied receiver Corey Davis and standout running back Breece Hall.
Barring any unexpected setbacks in trade talks between the Packers and Jets, Hardman will have the honors of going from one Super Bowl MVP and future Hall of Fame QB in Mahomes to another in Rodgers.
