Since agreeing to sign with the New York Jets and seeing the offer, social media and media personalities have been essentially killing Le’Veon Bell for holding out an entire year to only receive less than what the Pittsburgh Steelers had offered him.
In the end, Bell got exactly what he wanted and that was guaranteed money. The pro bowl running back will see about $25 million in guaranteed salary from his contract with the Jets.
Bell recently took some time to talk about his former employer and why he decided to “protect” himself, rather than accept the “take it or leave it” type of deal he was being offered by the Steelers.
As you can see, Bell mentions the unfortunate circumstances that happened with Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier and his spinal injury that may cost him his career and the risk of playing in a violent sport and not receiving as much money as you can before your time is up or taken from you unexpectedly.
Bell’s willingness not to work it out with the Steelers ultimately came down to the front office decision to not shell out the guaranteed money that he was seeking.
