New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers made a stunning admission about what initially went through his mind when he suffered a season-ending Achilles tear last year.
As it turns out, Aaron Rodgers strongly feared that his legendary football career was over after suffering the injury just minutes into his Jets debut against the Buffalo Bills on “Monday Night Football” in Week 1.
Speaking on the “I Can Fly” podcast, the four-time league MVP admitted that he didn’t think he’d be able to return to football after suffering a ruptured Achilles.
“I was really thinking, ‘This is it. You don’t come back from this injury,” Rodgers said.
This admission is surprising because Rodgers always seemed confident that he would fully recover and return to the field. You may recall that Rodgers wrote, “I shall rise yet again” in an Instagram post two days after he suffered the injury.

Rodgers even tried to make a heroic comeback for the Jets late in the season, but the team announced in December that they were officially shutting down the future Hall of Famer for the remainder of the year.
New York’s offense struggled tremendously without Aaron Rodgers once he went down with an injury. Head coach Robert Saleh used three different QBs in Zach Wilson, Trevor Siemian and Tim Boyle. Those three combined for just 11 touchdowns against 15 interceptions.
Aaron Rodgers’ Return Makes The Jets Contenders
With Aaron Rodgers likely to be ready for Week 1, the Jets can finally expect to re-emerge as Super Bowl contenders once and for all.
The Jets have a top-10 defense and a nice set of playmakers on offense led by Garrett Wilson, Breece Hall, Allen Lazard and Mike Williams. The o-line was bolstered by the pickups of Tyron Smith, John Simpson and Morgan Moses.
If Rodgers can stay healthy, the Jets will unquestionably be a contender in the AFC. This team has been held by mediocre quarterback play for nearly two decades now, but an all-time great like Rodgers is capable of single-handedly changing the fortunes of this franchise.
