New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers strongly indicated that he’ll continue to play football in 2025 with his latest comments, despite rumors that the 41-year-old will consider retirement.
Aaron Rodgers’ first healthy season with the Jets was a disaster for everyone involved. His final stat line wasn’t awful by any means (a 63.0 completion percentage for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions), but the Jets inexplicably regressed to a 5-12 finish after back-to-back 7-10 seasons with Zach Wilson as their main starting quarterback.
There are four options for the four-time MVP: Retirement, stay with the Jets, a trade or get released and sent to free agency. Judging by his latest comments, though, it appears that retirement isn’t on the table.
During his appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show”, Aaron Rodgers stated that his future with the Jets will largely depend on what the next GM and head coach want to do.
“I think everybody understands that it’s gonna come down to the GM and the coach and myself, and whether we all wanna do a dance together or if it’s not in the cards.”

The fact Rodgers kept open the door to remain with the Jets definitely suggests that he’d like to continue playing. The Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh and GM Joe Douglas in the middle of the season, and they continue to interview with various candidates for both vacancies.

If New York were to cut Rodgers post-June 1, they would save $9.5 million against the cap. However, trading or cutting him before that date would cost a whopping $49 million in dead money.
Aaron Rodgers Would Have Several Suitors
If the Jets were to move on from Rodgers, there are a handful of teams that stand out as logical landing spots. The Pittsburgh Steelers will presumably look for a new QB with Russell Wilson and Justin Fields slated to become free agents.
The Seattle Seahawks could seek an upgrade over inconsistent veteran Geno Smith. Maybe the Tennessee Titans, New York Giants or Las Vegas Raiders make a push for Rodgers instead of drafting a quarterback.
