There is one team in the league that is on the rise when it comes to being in the spotlight.
In his Football Morning in America column, Peter King predicted that the New York Jets could see themselves getting five evening games throughout the 2023 seasons. Of course, that would mean that the team has pulled off the trade to acquire Aaron Rodgers. Nobody really wants to see Zach Wilson throw 17 passing yards a quarter.
Last season, the Jets only received one primetime game, which was a Thursday-night loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The last time they played on Sunday Night Football was in 2011. One man has the power to change all of that just by him being traded to the team.
“I’d bet the Jets will appear in either the Sunday or Monday prime-time opener,” King wrote. “The league loves Aaron Rodgers. The league will try to capitalize on the fascination of Rodgers changing teams to have a ratings bonanza in week one. My money’s on NBC getting, say, Jets-Eagles or Jets-Bills on the opening Sunday night.”
King also added that the Jets could have 11 or 12 national games, including late Sunday afternoon contests and even a Black Friday game. he thinks that the Jets and Cowboys game might be the biggest draw all season.
With Rodgers last season, the NFL scheduled Green Bay for five evening games, five late-afternoon games, and a game in Tottenham. The team would finish out the year with a loss to the Detroit Lions on NBC. With Jordan Love getting ready to take over, those amount of games is not expected to be as high.
