New York Jets players took a page from Deion Sanders’s book ahead of their showdown against the Denver Broncos on Sunday, calling opposing head coach Sean Payton out for making it “personal.”
Walking out ahead of the game, the players made it clear that they had Nathaniel Hackett’s back.
Hackett is now the offensive coordinator for the Jets following a spell as the head coach of the Broncos last season. And he came under some fire from Payton after the former New Orleans Saints HC took over, with the 59-year-old blaming him for Russell Wilson’s failures.
“There’s so much dirt around (Russell Wilson’s performance). There’s 20 dirty hands, for what was allowed, tolerated in the fricking training rooms, the meeting rooms,” he said.
“The offense. I don’t know Hackett. A lot of people had dirt on their hands. It wasn’t just Russell. He didn’t just flip. He still has it. This B.S. that he hit a wall? Shoot, they couldn’t get a play in. They were 29th in the league in pre-snap penalties on both sides of the ball.”
Given the above, Jets players had some strong words for the Broncos head coach prior to kickoff on Sunday. Check it out below:

Meanwhile, Hackett has said Payton hasn’t reached out to him since he made the comment.
