New York Jets offensive lineman Max Mitchell perfectly displayed the art of grade-A sportsmanship during the club’s Black Friday Game against the Miami Dolphins in Week 12.
Miami star pass-rusher Jaelan Phillips suffered a torn Achilles that unfortunately ended his season in the fourth quarter of the Dolphins’ 34-13 victory at MetLife Stadium. Phillips was on pace for a career year, as his campaign ended with 6.5 sacks, one interception and two pass defenses in eight gamees.
Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer posted a clip from “Hard Knocks” of a concerned Mitchell checking in on Phillips after the latter suffered his gruesome injury.
Mitchell is heard saying,” “Oh (expletive), you okay, brother?” before coming back to check on the third-year star.
That is a first class move on Mitchell’s end. Even in the intensity of a bitter rivalry game, his main concern was the well-being of an opposing player. Let’s just say plenty of far less-classy NFLers could learn from Mitchell here.
The 24-year-old Mitchell is in his second season with the Jets. The Louisiana product was drafted in the fourth round (111th overall) by Gang Green back in 2022, but injuries unfortunately limited Mitchell to six contests in his rookie year. Mitchell has appeared in 10 of the Jets’ 12 games this year, making six starts altogether.
