Aaron Rodgers revealed his intentions to play for the Jets in 2023 during an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” in March. However, not much has happened since then.
Although a deal between the Jets and Packers has yet to materialize, it’s been speculated a second-rounder from New York could potentially be part of the package for Rodgers.
According to ESPN Packers insider Rob Demovsky, the Packers are just fine to wait until the Jets match their trade terms and will not agree to the Jets’ current demands.
“The way I understand it, the Packers are waiting for the Jets to meet their terms, not the other way around,” Demovsky said, via Eli Berkovits.
Jets owner Woody Johnson, who has made it clear he wants to add a veteran quarterback after a nightmare season by Zach Wilson, said he was “anxious” to get a deal done for Rodgers.
“I think we’re anxious,” Johnson said at the annual league meeting last Tuesday, via the New York Post. “We’re anxious, I guess. We look forward. We’re optimistic. We have a plan. We’re willing to stick with our plan. I don’t think anybody is hyperventilating.”

It appears that this standstill is going to continue well past the NFL Draft this month.
Earlier this week, Craig Carton suggested as the Jets and Packers remain at a standstill in negotiations for Green Bay’s longtime quarterback, the 49ers could make a play for Rodgers if a deal with New York falls through.
The 49ers, currently coached by Kyle Shanahan, own three third-round picks and zero first-rounders in the 2023 NFL Draft. Two years ago, the 49ers sent their 2023 first-rounder to the Dolphins as part of a package to move up in the 2021 NFL Draft in order to select quarterback Trey Lance third overall.
Lance is expected to start this year after he suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 2. Veteran Jimmy Garoppolo stepped in perfectly, but he would also suffer a season-ending foot injury. He has since taken his talents to the Las Vegas Raiders.
