The New York Jets’ Week 1 matchup started as a nightmare that evolved into a fever dream. Star quarterback Aaron Rodgers was injured on the Jets’ fourth offensive play and the air would be sucked out of MetLife Stadium until the team stepped up and defeated the Buffalo Bills in overtime thanks to a 65-yard punt return touchdown in the extra period by undrafted free agent Xavier Gipson.
Late Monday night, Jets head coach Robert Saleh told reporters that they fear their brand new quarterback suffered a torn Achilles in Week 1 which would end his 2023 season. It would later be confirmed on Tuesday.
Multiple Jets coaches took his injury so hard that many of them could not sleep at all.
“It’s 7:05 in the morning, and l’ve been texting with three different Jets coaches for the last several hours. They haven’t slept. They’re like so many Jets fans this morning. They’re devastated over Rodgers, and devastated for Rodgers.”
It seems that everyone in this organization is in complete disarray after this news, and fans have echoed a similar sentiment. Schrager later talked about the coaches and fans, saying, “They’re devastated over Rodgers, and devastated for Rodgers.”

So, where do the Jets go from here? Just because Rodgers is hurt doesn’t mean the Jets’ season is over. They are already reaching out to veteran quarterbacks to help them out as they still bolster an elite defense and a rushing attack headlined by Dalvin Cook and Breece Hall. They have enough to be in the mix for the playoffs.
