The New York Jets are in the market for a new quarterback and will be one of the teams sniffing around Aaron Rodgers should he hit the trading block during the offseason. Even so, they will be facing steep competition and might not be favored in a trade situation.
According to NBC Sports’ Peter King, they already have a backup plan in mind. And, if they’re unable to acquire the four-time MVP this year, they could make a move for another former MVP in Lamar Jackson.
Jackson’s relationship with his current team, the Baltimore Ravens, is not thought to be great and there could be some movement on his part if an agreement over a new deal cannot be reached.
“I think the Jets are gonna have a very tough decision on their hands, and I think they will go after Rodgers if he does play, and if they don’t get him, I think they will at least put their sniffers out and seriously consider Lamar Jackson,” King said on the Rich Eisen Show this week.
The Ravens are widely expected to franchise tag the quarterback to ensure that he does not hit the open market, while NFL Network has reported that they could consider trading the player for “a windfall of picks” if their impasse continues.
Convincing the Ravens to part ways with their star man might prove tasking, despite the frosty relationship. But the Jets are keen on making a huge improvement in 2023 and cannot be discounted in such regard.
