Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs tore his ACL during Thursday’s practice and will be out for the rest of this season. Cowboys fans are sick about it, but nobody is more heartbroken about the situation than Jerry Jones.
Diggs suffered the injury during one-on-one red zone drills on the team’s grass practice field. The news comes after the All-Pro corner was seen on crutches following practice and underwent an MRI. A decision on when he will have surgery has not been made.
A player of his caliber is very hard to replace and team owner Jerry Jones knows that as he spoke about it on Friday while referencing Tom Cruise to make his point.
“You can’t do that. That’s just not real. That’s like saying, ‘I want to be Tom Cruise.’ You don’t replace these irreplaceable players,” Jones said.
The best thing that came out of this situation is that Diggs got paid before he suffered an injury like this. Diggs and the Cowboys reportedly agreed to a five-year, $97 million contract extension in July. The deal, which could be worth up to $104 million, was structured to keep him in Dallas through the 2028 season.
He just turned 25 on Wednesday and had just gotten his first interception of the season in the Cowboys’ Week 2 win over the New York Jets.

That stout defense has only allowed 10 total points through two weeks and Diggs was a huge part of that. Over the first two games, he contributed to three of the team’s seven defensive takeaways, adding a forced fumble, three passes defended, and four tackles.
