Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has offered an astonishing reason for keeping Mike McCarthy on as the team’s head coach, at least it will be astonishing to disgruntled fans who were perhaps expecting an overhaul after the latest postseason embarrassment.
The Cowboys made it to the playoffs with a 12-5 record, having also won the NFC East, but they got off at the first exit as they shockingly lost to the Green Bay Packers via a disguised blowout.
A large section of the fanbase was hoping for a change at the top, yet Jones has shockingly decided to keep McCarthy on for at least one more season.
He has since explained his decision in a statement.
“I believe this team is very close and capable of achieving our ultimate goals and the best step forward for us will be with Mike McCarthy as head coach,” it reads.
“There is great benefit to continuing the team’s progress under Mike’s leadership as our head coach.”

This release has unsurprisingly prompted rife criticism. After all, McCarthy has failed to get the Cowboys past the divisional round ever since he took over.
Will the decision prove to be the correct one in the long run? We can safely say that Cowboys fans don’t think so.
