Jerry Jones shared an interesting line about his new head coach hire while making the surprising announcement on Friday night.
The Dallas Cowboys have placed a new man in charge after parting ways with Mike McCarthy, making the team’s offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer its new HC.
Jones and the Cowboys were heavily linked to Deion Sanders, with the Colorado Buffaloes head coach confirming talks with the NFL owner earlier this month. There was also talk of Kellen Moore, Leslie Frazier, and Robert Saleh possibly filling the vacancy.
Ultimately, Schottenheimer got the job and reportedly signed a four-year deal to coach the team.
The 51-year-old has worked with multiple NFL teams, including the Kansas City Chiefs, San Diego Chargers, New York Jets, Seattle Seahawks and Jacksonville Jaguars. He joined the Cowboys as an analyst in 2022 and was promoted to OC a year later.
Jerry Jones Is Excited About Brian Schottenheimer
Jerry, who must have been impressed with his new coach after two meetings with him last week, was pretty upbeat after the appointment.
“Brian Schottenheimer is known as a career assistant,” he told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. “He ain’t Brian no more. He is now known as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.”

Based on the social media reactions, fans aren’t prepared to match Jerry’s enthusiasm, although the new head coach will have plenty of opportunities to change peoples’ minds.
He will be under immense pressure in what will be his first season as a head coach but can make the experience a lot easier by bringing in the right staff. As such, reports have linked him with former Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus.
The new Dallas Cowboys head coach will be introduced to the media on Monday morning.
